The graphic designers work with the alpha build to flesh out the game's graphics, "as now they can see where the player starts from, how big the background can be, where they can place the score counter, how far the ball is travelling, etc."
Shivshanker noted, "Also with the alpha build, it's important that the game is fun to play. If you are having fun playing this game without fancy graphics, without any of this, then it's a good game. If the game is boring even at that first stage, then no amount of polish, no amount of graphics and sound are going to help it."
Once the more detailed graphics are approved after the alpha build stage, they are added in to the game, and it moves on to the "beta build" level. The beta build gives everyone a
better idea of how the game will look, and during this stage the programmers put in more advanced functions such as the game's scoring system, its timer and all the "bells and whistles" such as adding a "Splash Screen" to introduce the game and give its rules, a "Level Up" screen and a "Game Over"/"High Scores" screen. The completed beta build will be a "very clear indication of how the game is going to end up... 85–90% of the finished game's look, play and structure".
